As such, knowledge of diet and key prey trophic interactions during early life stages, and how these are influenced by environmental parameters (e.g. river flow), are crucial for understanding population dynamics.

The importance of water for the environment during the drought years is proving critical for maintaining end of system flows for salt export, habitat in the Coorong estuary, while benefitting riverine fish and fringing vegetation along the way.
