Presentation Description

Evolution in monitoring can challenge our standard protocols, but it can also provide incredible insights. Riverbank condition has been a focus in the Goulburn River selected area since the Flow-MER predecessor projects of 2009. This has seen erosion pins evolve into drone-based applications that have had long-term outcomes moving beyond assessing change, to explicitly understanding the flow-related processes that drive change from environmental flow delivery. It has led to collaborative projects with State and Commonwealth that have seen river operations consider riverbank repair. Whilst focused on environmental flows we have seen floods lead to unexpected outcomes in how the river physically responds. We have also learnt communication in new ways with audiences not previously engaged. This presentation briefly touches on each of these elements whilst highlighting how this ‘dirty work’ may benefit all selected areas.
